"We picked Saabira because of the depth and distinctiveness of her story of plastic. She explains, without judgement, how we became dependent on it. Rather than jumping to quick fixes, she doesn't duck complexity, focusing on combinations of solutions that can actually work in practice. My colleagues found her narrative compelling, as would any audience wanting to properly understand one of the great environmental and health challenges of our century. I have no hesitation in recommending her widely."

Global Head of Environment

Freshfields

I regularly speak to industry groups and public audiences, bringing together deep reporting, historical context and sharp analysis to help people see everyday behaviour, supply chains and business models in a new way. My work is evidence-based and grounded in the real-world forces that shape environmental outcomes: regulation, cost, consumer behaviour, infrastructure, competition, and investor pressure even as I use stories and narrative vehicles to connect with my audience and make sense of how our world works.

My reporting goes beyond plastics. I’ve examined glass, aluminium, paper, biobased materials and the trade-offs behind different approaches to packaging, chemicals, emissions and waste. I’ve interviewed people across the chain -- from waste pickers and recycling facility operators to chief sustainability officers,  entrepreneurs and regulators. I've also lived and worked in India, the US and the UK. All that has helped me develop a broad, practical view of sustainability that makes room for different viewpoints and values.

Organisations I've done talks for include Freshfields, Ofcom, Archipelago Ventures and WRAP. I’ve also appeared at the Hay Festival, Cambridge Festival, Stratford Festival and Glasgow, and discussed my reporting on BBC Radio 4, Times Radio, The Weather Channel, The Hindustan Times's books podcast and other outlets.

I advise organisations trying to make sense of plastics, waste, consumer culture and environmental trade-offs - and communicate more clearly and credibly about these. I’ve been asked to contribute insight to legal and regulatory discussions in the US, and have worked with documentary makers, nonprofits and others looking for credible, reporting-led insights on complex sustainability issues.
